Richard Harry Knox Sr., 68, of Searsport, passed away March 1, 2017, at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. He was born Nov. 7, 1948, to Harry Knox and Maxine Freda Foss of Farmington.

Richard is survived by his wife Elizabeth A. Knox and their four children: Richard Knox Jr. of Texas, Billie-Jo Knox of Waldo, Daniel J. Knox of Searsport and Annie Ashton of Bangor; his eight grandchildren Zeandra Ryder, Vivian Ryder, Robbie Knox, Nicholas Knox, Erin Knox, Natasha Knox, Victoria Ashton, and Anthony Ashton; his sister Christine Fournier and his many half-sisters.

Richard was a Vietnam War veteran, serving two years in the Navy on the USS America from 1968-1970. Richard was a local artist of Waldo County, most remembered for his oil paintings of land and seascapes, napkin sketches, and his best works of art — three oil murals currently displayed at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Belfast.

Richard also enjoyed spending time at Belfast Co-op and telling his fascinating stories late nights on the radio station WERU.

Richard will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport, where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Steve Nute officiating.
