Barbara Devereux Kingsbury, 84, passed away March 27, 2017, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She was born in Searsport on Dec. 6, 1932, the daughter of Nathaniel and Cora (Cunningham) Kingsbury, the fifth of 12 children.

Barbara was known to be very outspoken and political. She loved to watch Fox News and listen to Rush Limbaugh. Family knew from noon to 3 p.m., you didn’t bother Barbara. She was a very unique, independent, hardworking woman. Barbara worked for the investment industry for 40-plus years. This allowed Barbara to live in 33 different areas of the United States until her retirement where she came back to Maine to live. She would make it known to everyone that she lived in those 33 different places. She loved to travel and her most prized trip was when she spent a month in Paris with her Aunt Hazel. Barbara had a very strict schedule that she followed every day. She worked long days and she would always end her day with eating dinner around 10 p.m. in a restaurant. She never cooked. She enjoyed listening to classical music and sew; she would sew hats and donate them to cancer patients. In her younger years she sewed all of her own clothes.

The last couple of years she tried new things whether it was going to the movies, bowling or going with her great niece and her children to the bounce house. She even went through the drive through of a McDonald's and ate for the first time. She also enjoyed going to the lake for walks.

Her greatest love was her longtime companion Obie her dog. She loved animals. She grew up on a farm and would travel from the farm in Frankfort all the way to Winterport on her horse for school.

Barbara is survived by her three sisters Margaret Knowles, Frances Hall and Jessie Ginn, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; five brothers Grover Kingsbury, Lawrence Kingsbury, Lane Kingsbury, Robert Kingsbury and Donald Kingsbury; and three sisters Nancy Hardy, Natalie Seekins and Judith Tufts.

Per Barbara’s request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Barbara’s memory may be made to an animal shelter of ones choice.
