United Farmers Market developer Paul Naron recently picked up another property in the sleepy commercial district south of Main Street.

The former Consumers Fuel Co. coal storage lot on Front Street was sold to Naron's 15 Front Street LLC on March 30.

The 3/4-acre commercial property lies between Front Street and the water, with Heritage Park to the north and a private extension of Miller Street to the south.

The property was most recently assessed by the city at $399,300. There are two buildings: a newer garage on the inland side has four bay doors opening onto Front Street; closer to the water, the land drops to a flat yard — where the coal sheds stood before they were demolished in 2009 — and a barn.

The waterfront has a marina for small private boats.

Naron said the property was not listed and the opportunity to buy it came up quickly, so he had yet to decide what he will do with it. In the short term, he said, he hopes to keep the marina going and clean up the two buildings on the property.

His larger concern at the moment is a new indoor farmers market and event center located one block inland. United Farmers Market of Belfast will hold its grand opening Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 27.
