The following is a synopsis of the 2017 Searsport District High School baseball team:

Last year's record/playoff information: 13-3, first in Class D South. The Vikings defeated No. 8 Buckfield 10-1 in the quarterfinals, No. 5 Rangeley 10-0 in five innings in the semifinals, No. 2 Valley of Bingham 6-2 in the regional championship and Class D North champion Penobscot Valley of Howland 10-2 in the state Class D championship.

Known graduation losses: Troy Reynolds, Kyle Moore, Matt Barlow, Eric Phillips, Dean Evans and Brayden Perkins.

Significant impact athletes: Grant, Philbrook, Powell and Spiegel.

Team strengths: A mixture of youth and experience.

Team goal: To get better every day and make the playoffs.

Top league opponents: Bucksport, Greenville and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

Outlook: The Vikings may be coming off their second straight Class D title, but the squad graduated a wealth of talent and will rely on a handful of younger players to lead them on another playoff run.

“We are going to take a few lumps at first,” said Frye. “We have a very young team, but we have five guys that have won back-to-back titles and really work hard every day to try and get back there again. We will go as far as our young pitching staff takes us.”
