The Belfast high school tennis squads started their respective spring campaigns on an upswing on Monday, April 24, as the Lions picked up competitive victories over Medomak Valley of Waldoboro.

The Lion boys posted a 3-2 road victory in Waldoboro, while the girls defeated the Panthers 4-1 in Belfast in pro set matches.

Boys tennis

Belfast 3, Medomak Valley 2

At Waldoboro April 24, the Lions edged the host Panthers and clawed to the victory.

The individual results, with Medomak Valley players listed first, were: In singles, Richard Kinney lost to Josh Chung, 2-6, 0-6; Kyle Donlin lost to Eli Jolliffe, 3-6, 0-6; and Quinn Ashmore lost to Rudi Schnetzer, 3-6, 4-6.

In doubles, Casey Libby and Greg Wadsworth beat Nolan Woods and Ulysse Bex, 7-5, 6-3; and Amos Hinkley and Alec Coughlin beat Jacob Waterman and Adrian Santofimia, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

In an exhibition, Jaden Abruzese and Nick Hill beat Dylan Clark and Peter Shelton, 6-1, 6-1.

Girls tennis

Belfast 4, Medomak Valley 1

At Belfast April 24, the Lions prowled past the visiting Panthers in pro-set matches.

The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Rayahna Luther lost to Maggie Ryan, 3-8; Julie Cerone beat Hannah Smith, 8-2; and Samantha Hills beat Jessie Hugh, 8-3.

In doubles, Alexia Sweet and Kristina Walker beat Serena Poland and Molly Taylor, 8-3; and Olivia LaRoche and Starr Warner beat Katie Ryan and Claire Bourett, 8-2.
