State police have arrested two women in connection with two unrelated deaths in Waldo and Burnham earlier this year.

Victoria Scott, 24, of Rockport has been arrested and charged with manslaughter related to the February death of a man in Waldo. On Feb. 8, the body of Edwin Littlefield, 43, was discovered outside a home. Police began investigating the death as a homicide and at the end of February revealed Littlefield was stabbed to death. Police said Littlefield was at the Kendall Corner Road home visiting a friend when the incident occurred.

Tara Shibles, 36, of Thorndike, also was arrested and charged with manslaughter. She is charged in connection with the death of 72-year-old Joyce Wood of Burnham, who died outside her home after an intruder entered it in the early morning hours of April 2.  In addition to the manslaughter charge, Shibles was also indicted by a Waldo County grand jury on aggravated criminal trespass and assault charges.

Police said April 2 an intruder entered the home of Wood, prompting her to call 911. However, before police arrived, Wood was found in her home, stricken, and moved by family members to a vehicle where she died, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.

The intruder, a young woman whose name was not released at the time, was found in the home and questioned for several hours by a state trooper and a Waldo County Sheriff's deputy before she was released.

Both women were arrested at their homes May 11 by state police and made initial appearances in Waldo County Superior Court this morning.
