Seven Searsport track-and-field athletes — four girls and three boys — participated in the Penobscot Valley Conference small school track-and-field championship on Monday, May 29 at Foxcroft Academy.

The girls team scores were: Orono 172, Caribou 133, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 87, Central of East Corinth 51, Penquis of Milo 41, Dexter 35, Narraguagus of Harrington 17, Houlton and Washington Academy of East Machias 14, Searsport 9, Piscataquis 6, Bucksport 5, Greenville 4 and Sumner of East Sullivan, Bangor Christian and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln no score.

The boys team scores were: Orono 152, George Stevens Academy 119, Caribou 81, Washington Academy 64, Mattanawcook Academy 29.5, Dexter 29, Central 23, Houlton 22, Bangor Christian 21.5, Greenville 14, Sumner and Deer Isle-Stonington 10, Searsport and Bucksport 7 and Narraguagus, Penquis and Piscataquis no score.

For the Searsport girls, Paige Ireland finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18:05, after she was seventh in the prelims at 18.52.

In the triple jump, Ashten Wells placed fourth at 30-0, while Kaylee Knowles was sixth in the javelin at 82-4 and Brooklyn Knowles eighth in the discus at 80-8.

For the Viking boys, Malcolm Jones finished third in the high jump at 5-6, while in the pole vault, Holden Clapp was sixth (9-0) and David Estes ninth (8-0).

Vikings who qualify also will participate in the state Class C championship meet on Saturday, June 3 at 10 a.m. back at Foxcroft Academy.
