Police arrested a Frankfort man the evening of May 30 for allegedly operating under the influence after he crashed his vehicle on Belfast Road in Knox.

Shortly before 8 p.m., Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Jackson and Cpl. Darrin Moody responded to a single-vehicle crash on Belfast Road (Route 137) between Larrabee and Suitor roads, Chief Deputy Jason Trundy said.

William Rector, 70, was driving a 2007 Subaru Legacy when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. He was not seriously injured in the crash but was arrested at the scene for operating under the influence of alcohol, the chief deputy said.

As of May 31, Rector remained in jail on $250 cash bail, Trundy said.

Police also responded to a crash on Route 137 earlier in the evening involving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1979 Dodge pickup truck. Trapper Larrabee, 22, of Knox was attempting to turn left into Hilltop Store in his Chevrolet Silverado and did not see an oncoming Dodge pickup driven by 51-year-old Lauren Powers of Thorndike.

Trundy said it did not appear, based on the police report, that either driver suffered serious injuries in that crash.
