Some 1,600 cyclists crossed the Miller Street finish line of the Lung Association’s 33rd annual Trek Across Maine Sunday after three days of biking to raise awareness of and funding for the fight against lung disease.

Spectators turned out to cheer them on with applause, bells and whistles as they cycled downhill, past the finish line and on toward Steamboat Landing Park.

The 180 mile cycling tour began at the mountains of the Sunday River Ski Resort June 16 and concluded in Belfast Sunday afternoon. It was expected to raise $1.65 million for the American Lung Association. The annual event has raised more than $25 million to date.
