Police charged a Waldoboro man who allegedly punched and choked a victim until the person lost consciousness.

Joseph Brann, 22, was arrested and charged July 2 with aggravated assault, Class B, and aggravated criminal mischief, Class B.

Those charges were filed after Waldo County sheriff’s deputies Dean Jackson and Ryan Jackson responded to a 2 a.m. assault complaint at a West Appleton Road residence in Searsmont.

The deputies talked to the homeowner, who said Brann and another man arrived at the residence earlier in the evening and, after consuming alcohol and socializing, Brann got into an argument with other occupants of the home.

When Brann was asked to leave by the victim of the assault, he became upset and began breaking windows and denting the body of a vehicle at the residence. Brann also allegedly punched and choked the victim to the point of losing consciousness.

Brann was taken to Waldo County Correctional Center and was released the next day on $500 cash bail.
