The Wreaths Across America caravan made its annual trek through Waldo County Dec. 10 en route to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

There, wreaths will be laid at the graves of veterans on Saturday, Dec. 16, designated National Wreaths Across America Day.

Simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies will be held around the country at 11 a.m. Saturday in the annual Christmas tribute to veterans begun by Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester of Columbia Falls.

Wooster first donated 5,000 surplus wreaths to Arlington Cemetery in 1992. This year, more than 200,000 wreaths will  be placed at Arlington alone. A total of 1.2 million wreaths will be placed on markers across the country in 1,238 locations.

The caravan took a slightly different route this year, stopping in Bangor before continuing down Route 1A into Stockton Springs and beyond, with a wreath "drive-by" in Lincolnville Beach.
