A Searsmont man will spend 60 days in jail after he was convicted of stealing from The Home Depot store in Rockland while he was an employee there.

Kenneth W. Cox, 48, was convicted of theft by deception and two other counts of theft. He was sentenced Dec. 14 to five years in jail with all but 60 days suspended and placed on probation for two years.

Cox was also ordered to pay restitution of $8,250. He has already paid $11,000 in restitution to the company.

According to police at the time of his arrest in June 2015, Cox would buy items from the store and then return them and get store credit, but did not return the items. He was also accused of taking heaters.

At the time of his arrest, police said the items stolen totaled nearly $20,000 and the thefts occurred over nine months.
