The Leonard R. Craig Gallery at Unity College will open Matt Demers’ "Nest" with a 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. reception Thursday, Jan. 25. The gallery is located within the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St.

In this body of work, Demers explores and interprets the composition of wasp and hornet nests in his personal style of decisive brushstrokes, collage and abstract mark making.

"I've always been drawn to the forms, textures, patterns, and energy of these natural sculptural objects. I wanted to amplify those elements that I love to create my own unique objects while remaining true to their original forms," he said.

Demers is a visual artist who works out of his home studio in Gardiner. “Nest” will continue to April 7. The gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. Depot Street is off Route 202.

The opening reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact Ben Potter, professor of art and curator of the Craig Gallery, at 509-7239 or
