Belfast Free Library, 106 High St., will host a book launch and reading event for Michelle Menting’s new collection of poems, “Leaves Surface Like Skin,” from Terrapin Books, Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Abbott Room.

All are invited to attend this reading and signing event. Menting will read from her recently released book of poems; talk about writing and revision; and sign copies of the book, which will be available to purchase at the program. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

“Leaves Surface Like Skin” is Menting’s first full-length collection of poems and was published in late 2017. She also is the author of two poetry chapbooks, and her poems, essays and short stories have been featured in such places as American Life in Poetry, Verse Daily, The Southeast Review, Cimarron Review and Midwestern Gothic, as well as other publications.

Menting is the recipient of awards from Sewanee and Bread Loaf-Orion writers' conferences, Hewnoaks Artist Colony and the National Park Service Artist-in-Residence program. She holds a master of fine arts degree from Northern Michigan University and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska.
