Cold Comfort Theater seeks submissions of unpublished works to be performed during a one-act play festival in late March/early April.

Plays must be unpublished works of One Act. No plays should have been previously performed and must not exceed 30 minutes in length. Submissions are limited to one per playwright.

Preference will be given to works with fewer than eight actors. Actors and directors can be supplied by the playwright, his/her director or can be requested of Cold Comfort. Only minimal set pieces are allowed and will be provided by Cold Comfort. No flats, backdrops, etc. will be considered for sets, only chairs, tables, etc. Costumes are to be provided by actors.

A total on six plays will be selected, if that many are found suitable. The plays will be performed once, either on a Friday or Saturday, three plays per night. Playwrights will pay a $50 nonrefundable fee to Cold Comfort to cover production costs. All advertising will be provided by the nonprofit Cold Comfort Theater, which will receive all donations from attendees.

At this time, two sites are being considered for the productions. There will be a 15-minute talk back/Q&A led by playwrights following each performance.

Submissions must be received by March 5. All submissions must be sent either by post or via PDF to Cold Comfort, 139 Northport Ave., No. 1, Belfast, ME 04915 or For more information, call 930-7244.

Next month, Cold Comfort will offer a Monologue Intensive with Stella Adler Studio of Acting instructor Joe Goscinski, an opportunity for actors young and old, experienced or un-experienced, to fine-tune their acting skills. The intensive will run Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Belfast. A fee of $50 will be charged.
