Deadline for entering an original music composition to the annual Young Composers’ Competition is Friday, Feb. 9.

Launched in 1996, the Bagaduce Music Lending Library's Young Composers' Competition and spring festival aim to foster and develop an interest in original music composition and notation among Maine students.

The Young Composer’s Competition is open to all Maine students in grades K-12. Cash prizes of $200 for first place, $125 for second place and $75 for third place will be awarded to three contestants in each age group: Category I, age 13 and younger; and Category II, age 14 through high school.

All participants will receive a certificate and a written critique of their composition from a panel of three professional musicians.   Entrants also will be invited to perform their original pieces at the Young Composers' Festival, to be held April 21 at the Bay School in Blue Hill.
