Because of the many snow-related school cancellations this winter, two days originally slated as full-day professional development days for teachers instead will be early release days for students.

Meeting Jan. 16, the Regional School Unit 3 Board of Directors designated Feb. 16 and April 13 as student early release days. The two professional development days for teachers have been added to the end of the school year.

"By making these changes, we have recovered two of the five student days we have used, and it gives us more room to hopefully end the student year, and graduate our seniors as planned," RSU 3 Superintendent Paul Austin said.

If the district uses more than two snow days for the remainder of the winter, the school calendar will need to be adjusted again, according to a Walker School Facebook post.

Later in the spring when the threat of storm days has ended, the board will determine the final day of school.
