Gov. Paul LePage will be in Belfast Tuesday morning for what is being billed as a major economic development announcement.

LePage, along with representatives of Maine & Company and city officials will be on hand at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center for an announcement by the CEO of an international company of a "major new investment in Maine," according to a press release. The event is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.

The City Council with several city staff members and the city attorney met Monday afternoon with three individuals for an executive session on an economic development and real estate matter.

After an hour behind closed doors, the council authorized the city manager to "execute a certain evaluation agreement and an options to purchase agreement" draft with the caveat that the documents not be released until they are in final form, within 24 hours of Monday's authorization.

The three individuals in attendance were not named and declined to comment on the agreement, but they confirmed that the agreement related to Tuesday's economic development announcement. City officials also declined to comment after the special meeting.
