Traffic on Route 1A in Prospect had to be diverted for several hours Friday when a milk truck heading north lost control, crossed the center line and flipped on its side, knocking down a power line along the way.
At approximately 1 p.m., a tanker truck driven by Randall Goneau, 35, carrying 30,000 gallons of milk, left the road and overturned. Police did not specify a reason why the truck lost control but noted no drugs or alcohol were found in the cab.
The driver of the truck was taken to Waldo County General Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury. No other vehicles were involved in this crash.
Police said most of the milk was contained. A small leak was found on the tanker and an agent from the Department of Environmental Protection inspected the site for contamination because of its proximity to Penobscot River.
The milk could not be salvaged and was ultimately pumped out of the tanker before it was righted.
