The Waldo County high school wrestling teams of Mount View and Belfast experienced successful regular-season campaigns and followed those up with a successful showing in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference championships on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Cony High School.

Between the Mustangs and Lions, five wrestlers brought home top-four finishes. Mount View’s Mark Ward (138 pounds) finished second, Nathaniel Fuller (285) third and Jason Barnard (152) fourth in their weight classes.

Belfast’s Chase Curry (132) and Brian White (220) brought home second-place finishes.

After a day long event, Mount View finished 11th overall, and second among Class B teams, behind champion Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, with Belfast 12th, and third among Class B teams.

The overall team scores were: Oxford Hills of South Paris 165, Nokomis of Newport 149, Skowhegan 136, Cony of Augusta 123, Camden Hills of Rockport 114.5, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro 89, Morse of Bath 87, Mount Ararat of Topsham 81, Erskine Academy of South China 78, Mount Blue of Farmington 65.5, Mount View of Thorndike 60, Belfast 49, Winslow 38, Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield 34, Messalonskee of Oakland 31, Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston 15.5, Bangor 11, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 8 and Gardiner no score.

All wrestlers competed against one another in the meet in their respective weight classes, but Class A and B team champions were determined later.

The final Class A standings were: Oxford Hills, Nokomis, Skowhegan, Cony, Camden Hills, Morse, Mount Ararat, Erksine Academy, Mount Blue, Messalonskee, Bangor and Gardiner.

The final Class B standings were: Medomak Valley, Mount View, Belfast, Winslow, MCI, Oceanside and Lincoln Academy.

In Class A, Oxford Hills’ Tony Stevens was coach of the year and Viking Dawson Stevens the outstanding wrestler of the meet.

In Class B, Medomak Valley's Billy Bramhall was coach of the year and Panther Eli Miller the outstanding wrestler of the meet.

The individual Mount View results, with Mustangs listed first, were:

113 pounds — Morgan Fonger was pinned by Caleb Carrell, Nok, at 1:09; received a bye; and was pinned by Devin Hutcheson, CH, at 0:41.

126 pounds — Emma Fonger was pinned by Gaige Kindlimann, Mor, at 0:57; received a bye; and lost to Robert Davies, Skow, 11-1.

138 pounds — Mark Ward pinned Elijah Charbonnier, Bel, at 1:58; beat Justin David, OxH, 8-3; beat Alex Fogarty, Ocean, 9-6; and lost to Samson Sirois, Skow, 7-6 in the championship final. Ward finished second.

145 pounds — Zachary Ward received a first-round bye; lost by technical fall to Hayden Nile, MtB, 18-2; pinned Dana Purington, Gar, at 4:10; and lost to Chandler Shaw, Skow, 8-6.

152 pounds — Jason Barnard received a first-round bye; beat Jakob Arbour, Con, 5-3; lost to Eli Miller, Med, 7-0; beat Dakota Nutter, LA, 3-1; and lost to Dylan Cobbett, OxH, 4-0, in the consolation final. Barnard finished fourth.

160 pounds — Matthew Barnard pinned Kayne Bowden, Con, at 4:36; lost to Tucker Nicholas, MtB, 13-2; pinned Brady Hedstrom, CH, at 3:20; pinned Dylan Soohey, LA, at 2:10; and was pinned by Quinton Richards, Nok, at 3:38.

285 pounds — Nathaniel Fuller pinned Andy Murray, MtA, at 0:19; pinned Jacob White, Med, at 1:31; was pinned by Jakob Peavey, EA, at 0:53; pinned Nicholas Lincoln, Nok, at 2:33; and pinned Jeff Kirk, Ban, at 2:03 in the consolation final. Fuller finished third.

The individual Belfast results, with Lions listed first, were:

106 pounds — Timothy Smith pinned Jake Emond, EA, at 1:28; lost to Calvin Peck, Nok, 14-7; received a bye; and was pinned by Carter Fogarty, Ocean, at 4:06.

120 pounds — Patrick Hanley lost by injury default to Adelaide Mullen, LA; received a bye; and was pinned by Momo Halway, Con, at 3:53.

132 pounds — Chase Curry pinned Colby Smith, Con, at 1:03; pinned Caleb Johnson, OxH, at 5:20; beat Ian Henderson, CH, 10-6; and was pinned by Ben Lawrence, MtA, at 4:49 in the championship final. Curry finished second.

138 pounds — Elijah Charbonnier was pinned by Mark Ward, MtV, at 1:58; and was pinned by Cole Steeves, MCI, at 4:20.

145 pounds — Patrick Curtis received a first-round bye; was pinned by Brett Raio, MtA, at 3:53; pinned Trenton Basford, MCI, at 3:50; beat Steven Lujan, Mess, 8-1; and was pinned by Hayden Nile, MtB, at 4:09.

152 pounds — Isaac Ham was pinned by Isaiah Cogswell, Mor, at 1:52; received a bye; and was pinned by Austin Cook, MtA, at 3:44.

160 pounds — David Warren lost to Tyler Cox, Med, 13-11; pinned Haeden Landry, EA, at 3:30; and was pinned by Mason Hultman, MtA, at 4:05.

170 pounds — Jason Norwood received a first-round bye; was pinned by Alex Vokey, CH, at 1:57; and was pinned by Jakob Gess, Med, at 2:01.

220 pounds — Brian White received a first-round bye; beat Alex Demers, Win, 6-4; pinned Jarrod Taylor, OxH, at 3:17; and was pinned by James Boyd, Nok, at 0:56 in the consolation final. White finished second.

285 pounds — Cameron Watts lost to Ben MacWilliams, CH, 5-3; and was pinned by Trevor Reid, OxH, at 2:18.

Belfast and Mount View will participate in the Class B North championships on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Mount View in Thorndike.
