Poets Rising, a call for women's voices to celebrate V-DAY’s campaign to end violence against women and girls, invites the community to read and listen Sunday, Feb. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Playhouse, 107 Church St.

The gathering will honor women's voices, but all are invited. Those who wish to read are encouraged copies of their original poems — or work by others who inspire — to share with ASL interpreters who will be at the event. Donations will be welcomed to support New Hope for Women and The Playhouse.

The local gathering is in solidarity with the international movement V-Day — One Billion Rising: Rise, Resist, Unite — on the 20th anniversary of "The Vagina Monologues," a play written by Eve Ensler that sparked the movement around the world. In 2018, there are still one in three women and girls who will experience sexual violence in their lives; and tragically, sex trafficking of women and girls is the fastest growing criminal activity in the world. Despite this, women persist and continue to lead in resistance and truth telling.

Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 338-5089.
