A Winter Storm Warning has been posted for today over much of northern New England, including the Midcoast. Meteorologist Tyler Southard predicts snow totals of 6 to 10 inches, with lesser amounts possible along the immediate coast.

Here is Southard's full forecast: Moderate to heavy snow is on the way. Wednesday will start off quiet and cloudy, with morning lows in the teens and 20s. Snow will start to move in around noon and will pick up in intensity quickly as the afternoon progresses. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible during this period. The center of the storm will move in from the southwest during the evening and early night and pass along the Maine coast, helping to pull in some milder air.

This may cause some snow to mix with sleet and freezing rain right along the coast, keeping snow totals down some. Snow and any mix will come to an end by midnight, with sunshine returning for Thursday. Snow totals will range between 6 and 10 inches for most of the Midcoast, with lesser amounts possible along the immediate coast. Wind will not be a big issue with this storm, with winds generally from the east-northeast between 5 and 10 miles per hour.

The winter storm has begun to have the expected effect on community happenings. This list will be updated as notifications arrive.
