Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that strengthen communities are encouraged to apply to the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

A volunteer committee of Waldo County residents reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The deadline for applying is Feb. 15. Applicants should note that the grant criteria and application questions have changed. Application and guidelines are available online at

In 2017, the committee awarded more than $37,000 in grants to 10 nonprofits. They included:

· $3,500 to Maine Youth Alliance, to create a structured training program for volunteer teen mentors who serve in one or more of the Game Loft's special programs

· $3,500 to Cooperative Development Institute, to strengthen workforce, business development, and governance skills of cooperative members and workers in the Midcoast

· $1,500 to Coastal Mountains Land Trust, to engage Waldo County communities in land conservation, stewardship,and access.
