Belfast Area High School graduate Kylie Nelson received a plaque on Saturday, Feb. 10 for being the Courier Publications/VillageSoup 2016-17 high school female athlete of the year.
Nelson, a freshman student-athlete at Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I., is a two-time recipient of the honor.
Nelson, a standout field hockey play and track-and-field athlete for the Lions (she also competes in field hockey at her Division I college), also was the Courier Publications/VillageSoup 2015-16 high school female athlete of the year.
She is a former multi-time, multi-event state track champion and was deemed one of the top handful of field hockey players in the state as a high school senior.
Barrett Grant, a Searsport District High School graduate, was the Courier Publications/VillageSoup 2016-17 male athlete of the year. He received a personalized "varsity" jacket.
Nelson received a personalized "varsity" jacket in 2015-16 for her top athlete distinction, but was awarded a plaque this time.
