To commemorate 45 years of Roe v. Wade and build up the statewide movement for reproductive freedom, Maine Family Planning and Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights (GRR!) are collaborating to present the second in a series of advocacy trainings around the state Friday, March 2, in Belfast.

The first Fighting Forward Abortion Advocacy Training, held Jan. 20 in Augusta, drew 12 participants.

The training is intended for champions of reproductive rights (and newcomers) who want to hone their skills on topics of abortion rights and access, and who are interested in growing the base of support for reproductive freedom in Maine. Space is limited to 20 participants.

The session March 2 will run from noon to 5 p.m. at a Belfast location still to be determined. Snacks will be provided; participants may also bring a bag lunch. Registration for the training is open until Feb. 25 at https://tinyurl.com/FightingForward.

Participants will engage in presentations and discussions focusing on Abortion Care 101; Legal & Political Landmarks of the Abortion Rights Movement; Abortion in Context: Exploring the Reproductive Justice Framework; Threats & Opportunities in our Current Moment; Abortion Stigma & Myth-Busting; and Practicing Values-Based Conversations with Neighbors & Legislators.

Participants are expected to attend the entire session and to commit to collaborating with the MFP Community Organizer on one of a menu of action items following the training.

The free workshop will be led by Maine Family Planning clinical and advocacy staff.
