Two cars were involved in a Thursday afternoon collision on Northport Avenue that sent one driver to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash occurred at 1:38 p.m. at the corner of Salmond and Condon streets, where they intersect with Northport Avenue.

Helen Thibodeau, 75, of Searsmont was driving a 2017 GMC Terrain south on Northport Avenue when a 2009 Pontiac Vibe driven by Darrah Wagner, 68, of Winterport crossed into traffic from Condon Street, according to Belfast Police.

Wagner's vehicle struck Thibodeau's, causing it to leave the road and strike a tree. Both cars sustained serious damage, police said, and the front and rear airbags deployed in the GMC driven by Thibodeau.

Belfast Ambulance took Thibobeau to Waldo County General Hospital with minor injuries, according to police. Wagner was noticeably shaken but was not injured in the crash.

Belfast Police Officer Rick Smith said Wagner was looking for a street sign and might not have seen the GMC approaching.

No drugs or alcohol were found in the Pontiac and no charges are expected, he said.
