A sun-blinded driver was T-boned by an oncoming car on Swan Lake Avenue near Mill Lane Friday morning.

The police report states Tyler Holmes, 23, of Belfast was driving south on Swan Lake Avenue around 10:10 a.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Mill Lane.

The sun's glare temporarily blinded him and he could not see an oncoming vehicle driven by Marissa Melton, 27, of Belfast, according to police.

Melton's Subaru Legacy sustained heavy front end damage, while Holmes' Nissan Xterra had substantial right-side damage. According to police, no airbags deployed.

Melton's two sons, ages 5 and 1, were restrained in car seats in the back seat. Melton, who reported she is 15 weeks pregnant, was checked out by Belfast ambulance and released. She later contacted the Journal to report her older son sustained a broken nose in the crash but police on March 19 were unable to verify the child's injury.

Holmes and his passenger were not injured.

Police said no charges are expected. Belfast Ambulance, Fire Department and Police responded.

Editor's note: The story has been updated to correct the ages of Melton's children.
