Journalism scholarship application deadline April 1

The Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship Fund seeks applications from Maine students.

The Gannett Scholarship provides renewable support for students majoring in journalism or a field reasonably related, including print, broadcast or electronic media. The fund helps pay tuition to attend an undergraduate, graduate, trade or technical school.

Applicants must be graduates of Maine high schools or have been home-schooled in Maine. Students will be chosen based on demonstrated interest in journalism through their choice of course work and extracurricular activities, as well as financial need and academic achievement.

Scholarship available to a WCTC graduating senior

BAR HARBOR — Bar Harbor Bankshares has announced the availability of $1,500 scholarships for high school graduating seniors who are going on to college. Deadline to apply is May 1. Applications are available at any branch of Bar Harbor Bank & Trust and can also be found online at

This new scholarship is for income-eligible applicants who have attended a technical career program as part of their high school curriculum. Students who reside in Waldo County are eligible.

Although there is the potential for 15 awards of $1,500 each, only one scholarship winner will be selected per technical center. Waldo County Technical Center is among the eligible tech centers.

Application requirements include a personal statement describing career aspirations and college choice, explanation of leadership and community service, high school transcript, copy of FAFSA, and the completed one-page scholarship application.
