Two local men were arrested the afternoon of March 19 and charged with class A aggravated trafficking in heroin.

Maine Drug Enforcement agents arrested Arthur Gardiner, 67, of Swanville and Steven Galati, 49, of Searsport without incident. The two men were taken into police custody inside the Nickerson Road camper owned by Gardiner, according to a press release from MDEA.

MDEA received information that Gardiner, already on probation from a 2013 conviction for trafficking in oxycodone, was receiving heroin from Galati, which was then being sold throughout Waldo County.

Galati had been released on bail March 16, according to police.

A total of 196 bags/doses of suspected heroin were seized from the two men, along with scales, packaging materials and $1,900 in suspected drug proceeds, police said. Both were taken to Waldo County Jail, where no bail was set.

Waldo County Sheriff's Office and Belfast Police assisted in the investigation and arrest.

Anyone with information about the illegal sale of drugs is urged to contact the MDEA by calling 800-452-6457.
