Don Hanson, certified dog behavior consultant and columnist, and co-owner of Green Acres Kennel Shop in Bangor, will present a program at Belfast Free Library on Sunday, April 8, for those who care for and about dogs.

The presentation, entitled “Dog Behavior, Body Language and Dog Parks,” will provide valuable insights into the way that dogs communicate with each other and their people.

Hanson will help explain how proper understanding of dog body language and positive training can strengthen the human-dog relationship. Since dogs don’t speak human language, humans must interpret their dog’s communications by body language such as posture, ear set, facial expression, tail position and more. This knowledge can help people recognize canine messages and also increase the dog’s security, socialization and ability to get along with others.

The program is free and open to the public. It is scheduled at 2 p.m. in the library's Abbott Room, sponsored by Friends of Belfast Parks as part of the 10th birthday celebration of the Belfast Dog Park.
