The Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce wants to revitalize SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), and will present its plans on the Tuesday, April 3, program of "Good Morning, Belfast!"

Steve Ryan, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, along with Jayne Crosby Giles, GOP candidate for state Senate, will be guests on the upcoming show to discuss how they will be working to reinvigorate a local chapter of the SCORE program.

“Our intent is to offer tangible free support and guidance to local businesses, especially small or medium-sized ones,” Ryan said. “This support is flexible, ongoing and as needed, so it can hold something for almost any business,” he said.

Giles, of Belfast, is working with the chamber on the project. A former Maine legislator, she served in the state House of Representatives representing Belfast, Belmont and Northport as a member of the budget-writing Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee. In a March 14 news release, Giles said that she is on the June primary ballot for Maine Senate District 11, which covers all of Waldo County.

About their plans for restarting SCORE, Ryan further explained their purpose for appearing on the Good Morning Belfast show “is to discuss our effort, where we are headed, and how we need volunteer mentors for these (area) businesses.”
