Firefighters squelched a small fire aboard an early 20th-century steam-powered yacht in Belfast Harbor Sunday afternoon.
The 126-foot boat Cangarda was docked at Front Street Shipyard but was not under care of the business at the time of the fire, according to Nicole Jacques, a representative of the shipyard.
Jacques said no one was living aboard the boat. The fire, which started a just before 6 p.m., was reported by a night watch person for the shipyard, who spotted smoke coming from the boat, she said.
Firefighters removed a charred space heater and some burned material from the vessel. Belfast Fire Chief Jim Richards said the fire appeared to have started when the heater tipped over.
Richards said it burned an area of flooring and probably caused some smoke damage.
