The Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance is lining up its annual Black Fly Writers Retreat, an inspiring four-day/three-night weekend of workshops, readings and writing. The 2018 Black Fly Writers Retreat will run Thursday through Sunday, May 3 through 6, at Shoreline Camps in Grand Lake Stream, a town in northeast Maine near the Canadian border.

Black Fly Writing Retreat attendees spend three mornings in workshops of no more than 12 participants working with one instructor. Afternoons are open for writing and optional individual meetings with the instructors. In addition to the intensive workshops and one-on-one sessions, the weekend will include faculty and participant readings.

This year’s faculty includes a cadre of best-selling and award-winning authors: Brock Clarke (fiction); Elizabeth Peavey (memoir); and Wesley McNair (poetry).

Deadline for retreat registration is Friday, April 20. For full information on workshop descriptions, instructor biographies and registration fees; and on application for the Dibner Fellowship (due April 13), visit the MWPA website at
