Mere days removed from an early-spring snowstorm that blanketed the Midcoast, the high school tennis seasons swung in on Thursday, April 12 as Belfast and Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield squared off in season openers.
By day’s end, the home teams emerged victorious as the Lion girls blanked the Huskies 5-0 in Belfast, while the Lions boys dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to the Huskies in Pittsfield.

Girls
Belfast 5, Maine Central Institute 0
At Belfast April 12, the Lions prowled past the Huskies and prevailed in pro-set matches.
The individual results, with Belfast players listed first in the pro-set matches, were: In singles, Julia Cerone beat Cassidy Hamm, 8-0; Samantha Hills beat Jettah Files, 8-0; and Alexia Sweet beat Tessa Murphy, 8-1.
In doubles, Starr Warner and Olivia LaRouche beat Megan Farias and Makayla Guerette, 8-0; and Annika Kelley and Clarisse Stradman beat Mina Woodward and Brailynn Vanadestine, 8-4.
Boys
Maine Central Institute 3, Belfast 2
At Pittsfield April 12, the Huskies edged the Lions in an overall tight affair.
The individual results, with Belfast players listed first, were: In singles, Eli Jolliffe beat Xabier Fresno, 6-2, 6-0; Max Lewis lost to Ethan Varney, 2-6, 6-7; and Dylan Clark lost to Pedro Fernandes, 4-6, 1-6.
In doubles, Josh Chun and Kyle Agubuya beat Ricky Hallowell and Logan Tengboonsawangsin, 6-3, 7-5; and Sam Spectre and Thuan Phan lost to Harry Van and Frankie Chen, 7-5, 2-6, 4-6.
