“Now He Belongs to the Ages — Remembering the Death of President Lincoln” will be the topic of the Belfast Historical Society’s meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 23, in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.

The Rev. Dr. Duncan Newcomer will discuss how the meaning of Lincoln’s death can change everything about our present national crisis. As Walt Whitman long ago implored, we need to gather for this tragic reminiscence to recover Lincoln. A spiritual view of Lincoln answers our recurring need for wisdom. Choral accompaniment by Heartsong will open and close the program.

Newcomer presents “Quiet Fire: The Spiritual Life of Abraham Lincoln” weekly on radio station WERU. He is the author of a book on Lincoln’s spiritual life and teaches the Idea of America course at senior colleges in Maine.

Belfast Historical Society meetings are free and open to the public and are held April through October. For the program schedule, visit belfastmuseum.org.
