As part of The First Church in Belfast's 200th anniversary celebration, the Rev. Dr. Douglas Showalter will present a slide program Wednesday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m., entitled:

"You're Sitting in My Pew!: The Long Journey of Massachusetts/Maine Congregationalists from Meeting Houses to Churches, Free Pews, Offerings at Worship, and Individual Communion Cups."

Showalter is a retired UCC minister who has served churches in Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts, including the First Church in Belfast from 1976 to 1987. His wife Chris is a retired marriage and family therapist. The Showalters live in Plymouth, Mass., where they are members of The Church of the Pilgrimage, of which he is moderator.

Showalter is a graduate of Bowdoin College, Yale Divinity School and Chicago Theological Seminary. He administers the Facebook group "Explore Congregational Church History."

This program is free and open to the public.
