The Remakes and Originals themed Friday Flix film series concludes April 27 at Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. The weekly series screens films Fridays at 7 p.m. in the library’s Abbott Room. Admission is free.

Hosts Karen Gleeson and Paul Sheridan have been making their calls on original vs. remakes. Their April selections end with the former, the original film adaptation of John Osborne’s “The Entertainer” (1960, UK). The nonrated film, approximately PG, runs 93 minutes.

Although Kenneth Branagh made a slightly more modern version in 2016, the original is a milestone of British cinema. Laurence Olivier's performance as Archie Rice, an old-time British music hall performer sinking into final defeat who schemes to stay in show business, should be seen and appreciated, say the Friday Flix programming team.
