X-treme Gymnastics & Tumbling Center of Unity represented the Waldo County YMCA April 14-15 in the YMCA State Gymnastics meet in Waterville, in which the team competed as Waldo County Y – X-treme Gymnastics. The gymnasts performed well overall, with some team members earning state all around and event titles.

The team is coached by Mikell Grant, Jessica Smith and Allison Kennedy, with Anna Castonguay and Julia Imes as additional instructors.

Celia Hunt, 13, of Bingham is the Level 7 state beam and all around state champion for the junior age division.

Lilly Hunt, 11, of Bingham is the Level 6 state bars, beam and all around state champion.

The Level 6 team of Megan Sweeney, 12, of Hampden and Lilly Hunt also won first place in the team division. Megan also took second place all around.

Emily Lawrence, 8, of Burnham is the Level 4 state vault champion for the child age division.

Lilly Tripp, 10, of Troy is the Level 3 state vault champion for her age division.

Caleigh Chase, 10, of Burnham is the Level 2 state beam champion for her age division.

Abri West, 9, of Liberty is the Level 2 state vault champion for her age division.

Ashleigh Frederick, 14, of Dixmont and Savannah Lepow, 9, of Waldo had second-place finishes on vault for their levels and age groups, while Megan Sweeney and Abri West had second-place beam finishes for their levels and age groups. Megan brought in a second-place finish for bars, as well. For the floor exercise, Celia Hunt and Megan both had second-place finishes.

"They have all made great strides from the beginning of their season until now," X-treme Gymnastics owner Shannon Grant said, "and their hard work, from coaches to gymnasts, doesn't go unnoticed."

Next up for the 15-member YMCA team is the YMCA Regional meet, which most of the team qualified for, the weekend of May 12-13 at Kents Hill in Readfield.
