Searsport District High School is a relatively small Waldo County learning institution, but Viking student-athletes found themselves competing against much larger schools in their first track-and-field meet of the spring on Friday, April 20.

In the school vacation-week meet hosted by Hampden Academy, the Vikings mostly held their own and earned a bundle of top performances, led by a first place by Malcolm Jones in the high jump.

The girls team scores were: Hampden Academy and Bangor 158, Presque Isle 116, Ellsworth 68, Fort Fairfield 53, Greenville 3 and Searsport 2.

The boys team scores were: Hampden Academy 137.50, Bangor 97, Ellsworth 82.50, Fort Fairfield 68, Presque Isle 66, Greenville 37, Searsport 27 and Calais 24.

The Searsport girls individual results were:

1,600 meters — 9, Hailey Wood, 6:47.82

Discus — 13, Lauren Burkhard, 55-9; 15, Shannon Fitzjurls, 44-3; and 17, Diamond Platt, 36-9.

The Searsport boys individual results were:

110-meter hurdles — 3, Daniel McKeon, 18.92.

100 meters — 20, Devin Fairbrother, 13.53; 21, Holden Clapp, 13.64; 25, Steven Courtney, 13.89; 26, Daniel McKeon, 13.92; and 33, David Estes, 14.21.

High jump — 1, Malcolm Jones, 6-0.

Long jump — 4, Malcolm Jones, 18-7.

Javelin — 9, Gabe Poulin, 90-10; 14, Devin Fairbrother, 84-5; and 38, William Bradley, 39-00.

Discus — 4, Gabe Poulin, 86-8; 8, William Bradley, 75-8; 17, Colby Johnson, 67-8.

Shot put — 23, William Bradley, 24-0.25.

Pole vault — 5, Devin Fairbrother and Holden Clapp, 7-6; 7, David Estes, 7-6; and 9, Steven Courtney, 7-6.
