Ruth (Staples) Sawyer, 95, of Northport, passed away April 22, 2018. She was born July 3, 1922, in Belfast to Clifton and Mary Staples. She had seven siblings Cleve, Herbert, Lloyd, Alice, Preppa, Flora and Frances.

Ruth lived in Belfast and Northport, where she worked for The Republican Journal for many years, and in Connecticut, where she worked as a welder on submarines at Pratt and Whitney.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Ulric “Tom” Sawyer; son, Tom Sawyer; her parents and siblings.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Cliff and Sheila Sawyer, and Terry and Laurie Sawyer; daughter-in-law Ellen Sawyer; grandchildren Tom Sawyer Jr., Ben and Mandie Sawyer, Wendi and Trevor Hamel, Melissa and Jeremy Bisson, Nathaniel and Erica Sawyer, and Jessica and Peter Natale; and great-grandchildren Brynne, Aubrey, Keenan, Gunner, Logan, Sean, Maddie, Madeleine, Abby and Maggie.
