A northbound 2008 Chevrolet Silverado truck carrying portable plastic restrooms April 30 lost one of its units on Route 1, just past Angler's Restaurant in the vicinity of Long Cove.

According to Searsport Police Chief Richard LaHaye, "A crosswind came off the shoreline and snapped the strap, causing the port-a-potty to become airborne."

At approximately 1:50 p.m., the port-a-potty struck a black 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by Jeffrey Fischer, 59, of Deer Isle. The Jeep's windshield was completely smashed on the driver's side, but Fischer was not injured, LaHaye said.

The Jeep also sustained damage to the fender and hood, and was eventually towed with $4,000 in estimated damage.

The Chevrolet truck, owned by Kinney Construction of Searsport, was driven by Jason Cunningham, 32, also of Searsport.

Searsport Fire Department responded to the call and worked traffic control. The ambulance service was initially called but, because there were no serious injuries, returned to the station.

No charges are expected, LaHaye said.
