A Belfast resident was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with injuries Tuesday after the car in which he was riding left the road and flipped over as the driver tried to avoid hitting a moose.

Pamela Page, 54, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck north on Route 1A about 9:39 a.m. when a moose came into the roadway, according to Chief Deputy Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

She veered right in an attempt to avert colliding with the animal. Her vehicle left the roadway, rolled over and came to rest some distance away from the road.

Page had minor injuries, while passenger Christopher Page, 54, sustained injuries that left him "incapacitated," Trundy said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to Deputy Daniel Perez.
