May is Lyme Disease Awareness month and Belfast Free Library will host Lyme disease specialist Beatrice Szantyr, MD, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 15.

Dr. Szantyr’s “Tick Talk” is a free, informative look at ticks, the bacteria borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease, the incidence of Lyme disease in Maine, the difficulties of medical diagnosis, and steps you can take to protect yourself and your family.

There will be a hands-on display with examples of ticks, removal devices and repellents at the program. Deer ticks are out and increasing in numbers.
