The weekly Friday Night Flix series at Belfast Free Library, 106 High St., offers Suspense in May. All the screenings are free and take place at 7 p.m. in the library’s Abbott Room.

The next edge-of-your-seat thriller, on May 11, is Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest” (1959, USA). Talk about bad luck: in this nail-biter, Madison Avenue ad executive Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) is mistaken for a CIA agent and kidnapped by foreign spies. And it gets worse. After escaping, Thornhill is falsely accused of murdering a man and is pursued by both the foreign spies and the police. What’s a mild mannered ad executive to do? Hook up with a beautiful blonde, of course. Eva Marie Saint co-stars in this legendary thriller with an ending that is both heart pounding and ingenious. Who else but Hitchcock could have directed such a stunning tour de force?

The Suspense series continues May 18 with “Marathon Man” (1976, USA); and May 25, “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991, USA).
