Penobscot Marine Museum presents "A Salty Upbringing: Tales of Maritime Mothers" in partnership with Searsport District Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society.

The program will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the museum’s Sea Captain’s home at 1 Church St. There is no cost for this event, but donations will be welcome.

A Midcoast Maine mother reared her children at sea or at least close to the water’s edge. In later years, she sent her sons off to be captains and crew and her daughters to be captain’s wives.

Hear a troop of young actors tell the tales of the mothers depicted in portraits from the museum collection and tour the Sea Captain’s home.
