Belfast Poet Laureate Thomas R. Moore will host an open poetry reading, “On the Water,” Tuesday, May 22, in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St., beginning 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come early and sign up to read a poem; or come just to listen. All are welcome.

Moore's poetry encourages poets to get to work on a new poem about sailing or lobstering or gulls or skating, or read an old favorite; write a poem about a Marsden Hartley painting — he has many views of the sea and Maine lakes and rivers — or describe a tide pool or a recent kayak voyage; or take a walk through the Front Street Shipyard and write about one of the yachts or offshore fishing boats.
