The Playhouse, 107 Church St., continues a season of comedy and mystery with “Afraid of the Dark” by James Reach. The Playhouse Youth Theater Company shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., May 18, 19, 25 and 26; and Sundays at 4 p.m., May 20 and 27. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The newlyweds Lillums (Luna Carlson) and Chauncey (Jack Reader) arrive at cold, dark Stone Mansion on their honeymoon. Chauncey confesses that he’s been “afraid of the dark” since childhood. Suddenly the lights go out and the isolated country estate belonging to his Aunt Alberta (Isabelle Holt) is discovered to be populated with fantastic inmates plus a spy plot involving the FBI. Playhouse Youth Theater Company members Ada Curry, Oliver Howard, Esmé Deschamps, Mirabelle Kutsy-Durbin, Piper Sanders, Avaline Fairhayden, Ezra Holt, Eliot Fowler, Noah Gilchrist, and Henry Reader bring the mayhem and madness to life.

The play is directed by Mary Weaver. The Playhouse is an intimate theater with limited seating; call 338-5777 for reservations.
