Rebecca Ashley Stevens Lewis of Stockton Springs, born May 30, 1940, in Augusta, the daughter of Alice Louise Morton Stevens and George Robert Isaac Stevens, died peacefully May 12, 2018, surrounded by all six of her children after a difficult struggle with cancer. She graduated from Cony High School, and Central Maine General School of Nursing. She married the love of her life, Randall R. Lewis in October 1960. Their married life together was much too short as she was widowed in 1974. In their short time together on this earth, she was blessed with six children whom have filled her life.

Returning to work to support her family, she spent most of her career in fields taking care of others – first in her own preschool and daycare, followed by more than 20 years in nursing homes and assisted living facilities and lastly, in her retirement working at her daughter’s daycare and preschool. She had a special gift of helping families in their time of need. She was very fond of animals and was known to have more than one nontraditional house pet. Her pets have been her constant companions over the years.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother Jonathan Stevens, and her sister Margaret Stewart.

She is survived by her sister Mary Roy, her brother Dan Stevens, and her sister-in-law Laurel Stevens. She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Randy and Gretchen Lewis of Windsor, Jeffrey and Gina Lewis of Gardiner, Wendy and David Porter of Holden, Amy and Curt Smith of Bucksport, Emily and Michael Griffith of Chicago Ridge, Ill., and Betsy and Keith Bradley of Stockton Springs. She is survived by 18 grandchildren: Steven, Sean, Joshua, Becky, Peter, Ben, Mary, Laura, Brian, Garrett, Kerrigan, Olivia, Chris, RJ, Ashlee, Eric, William and Thomas; and six great-grandchildren: Anthony, Niko, Chiara, Frankie, Emmy and Nathan.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, at the former St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 9 Summer St., Augusta. Internment will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Augusta, with refreshment and remembrance in St. Mark’s parish hall.
