Searsport track-and-field athletes competed in two recent Penobscot Valley Conference championship meets in a matter of days — the league's small school championships on Saturday, May 26 in Caribou and the jayvee championships on Wednesday, May 23 in Brewer.

When the dust settled, Viking Malcolm Jones had soared to a title — in the high jump.

The Vikings also earned a handful of top-six places in the varsity championships.

The girls team scores were: Orono 205, Caribou 126, Central of East Corinth 87, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 71, Penquis Valley of Milo 28, Washington Academy of East Machias 14, Bangor Christian 11, Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln 10, Bucksport and Dexter 9, Greenville 5, Houlton and Sumner of East Sullivan 4, Narraguagus of Harrington 3, Searsport and Penobscot Valley of Howland no score.

The boys team scores were: Caribou 159, Orono 121, Washington Academy 68, Mattanawcook Academy 44, Greenville 34, George Stevens Academy and Searsport 32, Central 25, Bangor Christian 24, Deer Isle-Stonington 14, Dexter 13, Sumner 11, Bucksport 9, Houlton 1, Narraguagus, Penobscot Valley and Penquis no score.

The Viking girl individual result was:

400 meters — 7, Hailey Wood, 1:07.59.

The Viking boys individual results were:

110-meter hurdles — (finals) 4, Daniel McKeon, 18.67. (prelims) 4, Daniel McKeon, 18.61.

300-meter hurdles — 10, Daniel McKeon, 49.55.

High jump — 1, Malcolm Jones, 5-10.

Long jump — 4, Malcolm Jones, 19-5.5.

Triple jump — 3, Malcolm Jones, 38-8.75.

Pole vault — 3, David Estes, 9-0; 5, Devin Fairbrother, 8-6; and 6, Steven Courtney, 8-0.

On Wednesday, May 23, Searsport student-athletes competed in the junior varsity meet at Brewer.

The Vikings girls individual results were:

Javelin — 16, Zoe Perkins, 47-1.

Discus — 16, Shannen Fitzjurls, 49-3; and 29, Lauren Burkhard, 33-10.

The Vikings boys individual results were:

100 meters — (prelims) 44, Riley Colby, 15.02.

Javelin — 6, Gabe Poulin, 109-1; and 28, Riley Colby, 80-10.

Discus — 10, Gabe Poulin, 85-7; and 22, William Bradley, 74-4.

Shot put — 38, William Bradley, 24-5.
