PAWS held its first annual racing event, "Paces for PAWS," on Saturday, May 26 at the Belfast Rail Trail as more than 30 participants turned out for the event, and to help support the organization’s cause.

Brian Lashway of Charleston, N.H. was the first overall finisher for the event. Lashway finished the 3.1-mile course in 18:11. Amy Flood of Belmont was the first female to cross the finish line in 21:19. Flood finished third overall.

"Paces for PAWS" was a dog-friendly event, and participants were urged to bring their canine companions to participate in the festivities.

With this event, PAWS hoped to provide an opportunity for people of all ages in the community to help homeless and abandoned animals receive the medical care, shelter and companionship needed until their forever homes are found. Proceeds from this event went to support those animals at PAWS.

Non-runners joined the fun in a one-mile family fun walk.

PAWS, which stands for Pets Are Worth Saving, is a no-kill animal shelter, and registered 501(3)c not-for-profit organizations, located in Camden.
